3/14/2023 8:17:00 PM

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Pioneer Softball is back at the Sue Morris Sports this Wednesday facing the Carlow Celtics. Wednesday's contest will be the final non-conference game before conference play.

A Look at Glenville State

Through the first two weeks of the season, the Lady Pioneers have been on of the better defensive teams in the MEC. Glenville State has committed the third-fewest errors in the conference. GSU's bullpen also has been lights out. Coach Scoone's squad sits fourth in the league for team ERA.

Coming out of the Spring Games Glenville split Saturday's doubleheader defeating Mercyhurst 8-0 and falling to Ohio Dominican 6-4. Senior Holly Brehm picked up her fourth complete game of the 2023 campaign. Brehm only allowed one hit while striking out seven. The Lady Pioneers also finished the contest with nine hits in the winning effort.

GSU by the Numbers
  • 50: Holly Brehm sits second in the conference for strikeouts.
  • 2: Freshman Emma McLean leads the Lady Pioneers in stolen bases.
  • 10: So far this season Addison Aguiniga has recorded the most hits for GSU.
  • 3: In the win against Mercyhurst, three Lady Pioneers produced two or more hits.

A Look at Carlow

Carlow enters the contest with a (2-10) overall record and on a six-game losing streak. Saturday marks the second-ever meeting between these two squads. The Celtics are coached by Glen Zinsmeister who enters his fifth season under the helm.

During the 2023 season, Carlow has ranked toward the bottom of the River States Conference in hitting. While the Celtics have recorded 87 hits in 12 games, they sit 8th in their conference for team batting average. Carlow's bullpen has allowed seven home runs this season which is the third most in the RSC. The Celtics team ERA of 5.85 sits tenth in their conference.
