Pioneer Softball Swept by the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Softball fell to the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan in both contests of the doubleheader. The Lady Pioneers' bats were held silent producing only five hits for the day. For most of the first game, GSU kept Wesleyan's bats silent. In game two the Bobcats' bats got going.

Two of the Mountain East Conference's best pitchers were locked in during the first contest. For Wesleyan Hannah Hudson got the start for the Bobcats. Hudson pitched a complete game while striking out nine. For the Lady Pioneers, the senior Holly Brehm got her ninth start. Drehm had a dominant start striking out the first nine batters. 

Early on Glenville had the chance to score but couldn't. After Emma McLean started the third inning with a walk, she advanced to second on a stolen base. Then McLean advanced to third on Kylie Goodman's sacrifice bunt. However, the Lady Pioneers struck out on the next at-bat ending the inning. 

At the top of the sixth, the Bobcats were able to get on the board scoring the game's first run. Hallie Dinklocker reached on a fielder's choice advancing all runners. With a throwing error, West Virginia Wesleyan scored a run. Wesleyan would score two more runs in the inning with a single to second reaching the outfield. 

During the bottom half of the inning, the Lady pioneers had another chance to score. While the Bobcats got two quick outs a single by Kaelyn Stenger started to shift the momentum. Stenger would reach second on a stolen base. Katelyn Richardson got hit by a pitch giving GSU another base runner. With another strikeout by Hannah Hudson, no runs would cross for Glenville.

Holly Brehm pitched a complete game for Glenville State. Brehm finished the contest with 13 strikeouts and did not walk a single batter.

The Lady Pioneers struggled to get base runners in game two. West Virginia Wesleyan took advantage of this early scoring three runs in the third. Through four innings Glenville only had two base runners with a single from Ashton Palmer and a Katelyn Richardson walk. The Bobcats Kendall Stoffel was able to get them out of the inning.

During the top of the fifth West Virginia Wesleyan doubled their lead. Alyssa Souders picked up her second hit of the contest scoring the first run of the inning. With back-to-back singles, the Bobcats made it 6-0.

Glenville State would produce two hits in the final two innings. However, the Lady Pioneers could still not get a run across.

Glenville State Softball will be back in action Sunday at the Sue Morris Sports Complex hosting the Senators of Davis and Elkins College.
