Glenville State Baseball Battles In Doubleheader With Notre Dame College

AVON, Ohio - Glenville State Baseball split their series with the Falcons of Notre Dame College. Both contests were close battles. In the first contest, the Pioneers would trail for most of it but tied it up late. However, Notre Dame College walked it off late by scoring in the seventh. Game two proved to be another close one but this time the Pioneers came out on top.

Game One Glenville State 4 Notre Dame College 5

Glenville tailed early on in the contest. The Falcons in the bottom of the second jumped out to a 2-0. With the bases loaded a single through the left side drove in two runs. During the fourth inning, NDC was able to double its lead. The Pioneers got two quick outs with a groundout to short and a pop-up to second. However, back-to-back walks another single down the line made it 4-0.

At the top of the fifth, The Pioneers started to claw into the Falcons' advantage. Glenville was able to load the bases with two walks and an error by NDC. A balk would advance all runners  scoring  Ryan Rodriguez. Mathew Mangum gave GSU their first hit of the contest. Mangum's single to left field drove in two runs shrinking Notre Dame College's lead down to one.

In the Pioneer's next time to the plate, they tied it up 4-4 with a Zach Morris single to the outfield. During the bottom half of the inning, the Falcons were close to scoring. A double down the line by Alec  Mendoza moved the game-winning run to third. Glenville's defense was able to pick up the third out of the frame by a line out to right field.

GSU had two early baserunners in the seventh but could not get them across. Notre Dame was able to score deciding run after a sacrifice bunt moved Prevesk to second. With a walk-off single up the middle, the Falcons were able to come out on top.

Game Two Glenville State 3 Notre Dame College 0

Both teams were held in check during game two of the doubleheader. Chase Swain got the start for Glenville and Matthew Brown started on the mound for Notre Dame College. Swain was able to go the entire contest for the Pioneers. Brown after the fifth inning would be pulled.

Swain and Brown faced some adversity in the fifth inning. Brown after runners reached second and third produced back-to-back outs getting NDC out of the inning.  While the Ravenswood, W.Va. native only had three walks, two of them came in the bottom half of the frame. After a wild pitch advanced the runners the Pioneer's defense stood strong and got out of the inning.

With both squads scoreless through seven, game two went into extra innings. At the top of the eight GSU drove in three runs. Freshman Carlos De Jesus scored the first run hitting a single to center field. Two consecutive walks loaded up the bases for the Pioneers. Mason Lohr single up the middle scored Glenville's final two runs.
