Pioneer Softball Hosts the Mountain Lions of Concord University in Mid-Week Matchup

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Softball continues their home stretch in a mid-week conference matchup with the Mountain Lions of Concord University. With both squads' conference records being decided by two games, the series has major early implications for the standings. A series sweep can see Coach Scoone's Lady Pioneers jump to third in the MEC South Division.

A Look at the Lady Pioneers

Glenville State is coming off an impressive weekend series with the Senators of Davis and Elkins College. The Lady Pioneers produced 14 runs on Sunday which is the most they have produced all season in a doubleheader. Shelby Mcdaniles and Makenna Negley combined for six hits and only left one runner on base.

GSU continues to have one of the better bullpens in the Mountain East Conference. With pitchers, Holly Brehm, Maddison Thimmes, and Kylie Burdick the Lady Pioneers have posted an ERA of 2.99. These pitchers have been able to be effective since Glenville has committed the third-fewest errors in the MEC.

  • 3: The Lady Pioneers bullpen has given up the fewest home runs in the conference.
  • 1: In Sunday's doubleheader Kaelyn Stenger hit her first home run of the season. 
  • 20: Both Katelyn Richardon and Makenna Negley lead Glenville in hits this season.
  • .481: Katelyn Richardson sits fifth in the MEC for on-base percentage. 

A Look at the Mountain Lions 

Concord enters Wednesday's contest on a three-game losing streak. The Mountain Lions started the weekend with a win over Davis and Elkins but dropped the second leg and were swept by West Virginia Wesleyan. CU is coached by Alyssa Morris who enters her second season under the helm.

So far this season the Mountain Lions sit towards the bottom of the league in batting average and on-base percentage. While Concord's bullpen has an ERA of 4.43, they have had issues giving up the long ball. Through 29 games CU has given up 15 home runs which is the most in the MEC.

  • 27: Lacie Lewis ranks seventh in the conference for hits. 
  • 3: Sarah Thompson has hit the ninth most home runs in the MEC.
  • 7: Kylee Stacy has provided speed on the bases for the Mountain Lions recording the seventeen most steals in the league. 
  • 53: Caitlyn Bauer leads Concord in strikeouts and ranks seventh in the conference.
