Lady Pioneer Softball Continues Home Stretch Against the University of Charleston and West Virginia State

GLENVILLE, W. Va. - Glenville State Softball is back in action at the Sue Morris Sports Complex to face the University of Charleston and West Virginia State University. Previously this week, the Lady Pioneers won both contests against the Mountain Lions of Concord. With Glenville facing South Division foes this weekend, Coach Scoone's squad can create separation in the standings.

A Look at Your Pioneers 
 
The Lady Pioneers enter this weekend on a four-game winning streak. Glenville State has been one of the better defensive teams in the MEC. Through 26 games, GSU sits first in the conference for fielding percentage and ranks second for the fewest errors committed. While at times Glenville can struggle to score, a superb bullpen helps the Lady Pioneers secure close wins.  
 
Senior Katelyn Richardson is having a good start to the season. The Princeton, W.Va. native is batting .284 with a team-high on-base percentage of .442. Richardson accumulating 19 hits and the third most walks in the MEC has led her to sitting fourth in the league for on base percentage. 
 
Glenville State by the Numbers 
  • .319: Freshman Shelby Mcdaniels leads the Lady Pioneers in batting average.  
  • 3: Katelyn Richardson sits 12th in the MEC for home runs.  
  • 79.1: Holly Brehm has pitched the third most inning in the conference. 
  • 3: The Lady Pioneers bullpen have given up the fewest home runs in the league.  
 
A Look at The Yellow Jackets  
 
West Virginia State sits one game back of the Lady Pioneers. Glenville opened conference play with the Yellow Jackets and split the doubleheader. WVSU continues to have one of the better offenses in the conference batting .299 as a team. However, West Virginia State's bullpen is giving up 5.55 earned runs per contest. 
 
Kasey Murphy, Emma Ruth, and Emma Pauley all are batting over .350 for the Yellow Jackets. As a team, West Virginia State has hit the second-most doubles in the conference. While WVSU's bullpen has struggled at times, Murphy has recorded five wins for the Yellow Jackets.

  • .652: Emma Pauley sits tenth in the MEC for slugging percentage.  
  • 28: Kasey Murphy has drove in the fourth most runs in the conference. 
  • 52: The Yellow Jackets have made the second most errors in the league. 
  • 150: WVSU's bullpen ranks fourth in the MEC for runs allowed.  
 
A Look at The Golden Eagles 
 
The University Charleston enters this weekend in first place of the South Division and four games ahead of Glenville. UC has already faced the Lady Pioneers and swept the doubleheader back in March. The Golden Eagles continue to have success on both sides of the diamond. T. Throughout the 2023 campaign, UC ha has been one of the top hitting teams in the MEC 
 
Hannah Rose leads the conference and Golden Eagles in batting average this season. Rose also leads the MEC in on-base percentage. The junior provides speed on the bases for Golden Eagles recording the third most in the league.  
 
Charleston by the Numbers 
  • 3.74: Since the start of conference play UC has the fifth best ERA in the MEC. 
  • .420: Isabella Andujar has the fourth best batting average in the conference. 
  • 87: Brianna Mccown sits second in the league for strikeouts. 
  • 8: Isabella Andujar leads UC and the conference in home runs.
