Pioneer Baseball Falls At Home to the Tigers of Salem University

Glenville, W.Va. - Pioneer Baseball returned home to the Sue Morris Sports Complex from Wilson N.C. where GSU split their four games. In their first game back on Kenny Greenlief field Glenville fell 12-0 to Salem University. The Tigers were able to take advantage of uncharacteristic errors made by the Pioneers.

Today's afternoon affair started out with both pitchers dueling holding their opponent in check. At the top of the third, the bats for the Tigers would get going scoring three runs. With back-to-back walks, Salem had an early two base runners before an out was recorded.  A single to the outfield drove in the first run and a double by the Tigers Ben Matos scored two more before the end of the inning.

Brandon Layne started out the bottom half of the inning for Glenville with a single to left field. Layne had a superb day from the plate going 4-4 and recording four hits. With two consecutive strikeouts and a line out to first the inning ended for the Pioneers.

During the top of the fourth Salem added four more runs to their lead. Three of the four runs scored at the top of the fifth were unearned. In consecutive innings, Glenville was to start off with a lead-off single. Once again the Pioneer's bats would go quiet.

In the final three innings of the contest, the Tigers produced three more runs. However, Salem had success with the long ball. Salem's Jacob Hurley had a solo home run and Aaron Forbes drove in three with a shot to center field.

Glenville State will be back in action this weekend at the Sue Morris Sports Complex hosting the Dragons of Tiffin University this Saturday and Sunday.
