GSU Softball Returns Home For Contests Against Mercyhurst and Ohio Dominican

Glenville, W.Va. – Fresh off their eight-game swing in Florida, Glenville's Softball team returns to the friendly confines of Doug Morris Field this Saturday. Coach Sara Scoone's squad is coming off the Spring Games in Florida. During the road trip, the Lady Pioneers posed a record (3-5) picking up wins against the University of Findlay, Grand Valley State, and Walsh University.

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers 

So far this season the Lady Pioneer's bullpen has been solid through the first 12 games. Five Starts Holly Brehm has picked up two wins while striking out over 40 batters. Freshman Kylie Burdick also has started her Glenville State career picking up two wins in five starts. 

GSU has gotten consistent offense throughout the campaign from Shelby Mcdaniels, Addison Aguiniga, and Katelyn Richardson. Mcdaniels a freshman from Buckhannon, W.Va. currently has the squad's best betting average. Both Richardson and Aguiniga have hit a home run this season. 

Glenville State by the Numbers
  • 16: Holly Brehm in her career has recorded nine or more strikeouts on 16 separate occasions. 
  • 2: Both Ashton Palmer and Makenna Negley lead the Lady Pioneers in steals.
  • 3: Glenville State is (3-0) against Mercyhurst since the 2020 season. 
  • 1: The Lady Pioneers will face Ohio Dominican for the first time in the program's history. 

A Look at Mercyhurst 

The Lakers have had one of the best batting averages in the PSAC so far this season. In ten games Mercyhurst has tallied 94 hits while scoring 57 runs. Allison Dejidas, Cheyenne Hindman, Anna O'Green, and Madison Fry are all hitting over .300. The Lakers also sit fifth in their conference for RBIs. 

While Mercyhurst ranks toward the top in hitting Coach Leanne Baker's squad sits towards the bottom of the PSAC in ERA. As a team, the Lakers sit 12th  with a 4.44 while walking 32 batters. Junior Mikaela Schramski has been the Laker's go-to arm making four starts this season.

  • 10: In her second start of the season Freshman Alexa North recorded 10 strikeouts in eight innings.
  • 8: Allison Dejidas leads the team in RBIs this season
  • 5: Mercyhurst has five home runs during the 2023 season.
  • 12: The Lakers have committed the seventh most errors this season in the PSAC.

A Look at Ohio Dominican

The Panthers after a sluggish start to the season have gone (6-4) in their last ten. During this stretch, Ohio Dominican defeated Alabama Huntsville who was ranked 23rd in the country. After trailing 3-0 after three innings the Panthers took the lead but entered the top of the seventh tied. Coach Vanlandingham's squad with good hitting and smart basing produced the game-winning run. In the bottom of the seventh, a double play ended the contest.

So far this season Ohio Dominican sits in the top three of the GMAC for team batting average hitting .293. The Panthers have also hit the fifth most home runs in their respective conference. Junior Alli Madden leads the team in batting average through 17 games.

  • .444: Sophomore Kaleigh Golden leads the panthers in on-base percentage and sits 13th in the GMAC.
  • 32: Marlee Jacobs ranks sixth in their conference for strikeouts. 
  • 2: Olivia Congleton sits sixth in the GMAC for home runs.
  • 1: Marlee Jacobs also has been dominant on the mound pitching one shutout.
