Pioneer Softball Continues Conference Play Against Concord University

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Softball starts a 14-game road trip against the Mountain Lions of Concord University.  The Lady Pioneers have already faced CU twice this season and swept the doubleheader. Since the beginning of the Mountain East Conference Glenville has not taken the regular season series. It has been 13 years since GSU has taken the regular season sires against the Mountain Lions.

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers 

Coach Sara Scoone's squad enters Wednesday's contest on a roll. The Lady Pioneers are (8-2) in their last ten propelling them to third in the South Division. Throughout this stretch, Glenville's bats have been solid. GSU averages 6.5 hits per game but has averaged 7.5 in the last ten. Since the start of league play, Kaelyn Stenger and Emma McLean have seen jumps in their batting average. 

During the 2023 campaign, Glenville's bullpen has been one of its strengths. The unit has the third-lowest ERA in the MEC with a 2.75. With picking up her ninth win of the season freshman Kylie Burdick made program history. Burdick now holds the school's record for the most wins by a freshman.

  • 14: Holly Brehm ranks second in the MEC for complete games. 
  • 143: Brehm has produced the 12th most strikeouts in the country
  •  .353: Since conference play, Kaelyn Stenger leads the Lady Pioneers in batting average.
  • 35: Katelyn Richardson sits 15th in the conference for hits this season. 

A Look at the Mountain Lions

Since the first meeting between these two squads, Concrod has gone (4-4) sweeping Wheeling University. During this stretch of play freshman Lacie Lewis has been on fire for the Mountain Lions. Lewis in the last eight contests has had a batting average of .586 while driving in four runs. Stacy Kylee also has been a key contributor through this stretch with a .392 batting average.

The Mountain Lions bullpen this season has posted six shutouts which is third in the MEC. Nancy-Jo Roberts is the go-to arm for Concord this season starting 20 games in 21 appearances. Roberts leads the league in complete games with 15 and has posted three shutouts.
