GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Soccer team fell to the University of Charleston at home this afternoon 5-0. The Golden Eagles fired 15 shots off to the Pioneers' six.
1st Half
After many throw ins to begin the game, Charleston's Juliette Lucas got the first shot off at the eight-minute mark but missed it above the goal. Abigail Morales corralled a save just 17 seconds later. Graylin Floyd missed right and high near the 12th minute and Merel Smets had her shot saved by UC's Jordan Maynard not too long after. The Golden Eagles started to pour it on, scoring at the 16-minute mark, 27-minute mark and 32-minute mark to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
2nd Half
Two minutes into the new half, UC added to their already comfortable lead with a goal by Lina Jaime. The offense for GSU struggled as the first shot of the half didn't come until the 67-minute mark. At the 69-minute mark, UC made it a 5-0 game on a shot from Hannah Goes that was about 25-yards out. The Golden Eagles stayed steady for the remainder of the game, closing out the match with a 5-0 victory.
Final Stats
Hannah Hill, Merel Smets and Tessa Cinotti all had a shot on goal. Abigail Morales and Mikayla Brown both picked up a save in today's loss.
Lina Jaime led the charge for the Golden Eagles with two goals, accompanied by Hannah Goes, Sophia Mankowski and Cassidy Collins who all had one. Jaime, Carina Widaur and Allison Rothman chimed in with one assist each. Kordan Maynard finished with three saves.
