Pioneers Sweep Davis & Elkins to Record First MEC Win of Season

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team earned a clean sweep of the Davis & Elkins Senators tonight inside the Waco Center, winning 25-18, 25-17 and 25-17. The Pioneers were active defensively, almost garnering double-digit blocks tonight with nine.

The Pioneers came out fast on the Senators, using kills by Nalaina Funk and Rita Kelly to go up 5-1 in the first set. The lead would be sustained for the remainder of the set as GSU didn't allow Davis & Elkins to get any closer than three points.

In set two, it was another fast start for Glenville State. Midway through the set, the Pioneers scored five in a row to make it 15-7, gaining a controlling lead. The lead grew to as much as nine at 22-13 and the Pioneers closed it out at 25-17.

D&E made it much more interesting in the third set, tying it 6-6 early on. Glenville State went on a 8-1 run to double the Senators score and take a commanding lead. Katarzyna Niderla got hot, helping lead the Pioneers to the 25-17 third set victory and clean sweep.
