GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Coach J.R. Dodson's Glenville State Women's Soccer team battled the undefeated Frostburg State squad hard Wednesday night, eventually falling to the talented Bobcats 2-0. For the first 55 minutes of action, the Pioneers fought to a 0-0 tie, but Frostburg was able to materialize a pair of late goals.
In the first half, the shot differential was 5-2. A remarkable feat for Glenville's defense, as the Frostburg attack had been averaging 28 shots per contest. Goalkeeper Abigail Morales had some acrobatic saves in the period, including a pair of last-second kick saves. Shots on goal in the half were produced by Merel Smets and Hannah Hill for the Pioneers.
Madison Allen broke the tie with a goal at the 55-minute mark. Frostburg held on to the 1-0 advantage until the final 10 minutes, when an insurance goal was provided by Carolyn DeSena off an nifty assist from Morgan Mrizik.
The Final Stats
For the night, Frostburg led in overall shots 11-2, and attempted all six awarded corner kicks. Morales collected seven saves for the Pioneers.
Frostburg improves to 8-0 overall, and 5-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Glenville falls to 2-4-2 overall, and 1-4-1 in league play.
