Pioneers Drop Non-Conference Bout at Lake Erie College

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Glenville State Volleyball team fell on Tuesday evening on the road against Lake Erie College in a non-conference matchup, 3-0.

The Pioneers fell behind in the first set and could not mount a big comeback, losing 25-10. GSU showed grit in the second set after working to a 23-18 score in favor of the Storm, the Pioneers scored the next four points to make it a 23-22 game at that point. However the Pioneers would fall in set two, 27-25. In the third set, the Pioneers came out hot, leading 10-9 after a Storm attack error but would fall behind 21-16 as Lake Erie went on a run. The Pioneers fought back but couldn't get closer than two points the rest of the way, eventually losing the third and final set, 25-22.

Rori Hanken recorded eight kills and Alexandra Matthews had seven in the game. Simone Schurr was the leading setter with 16 assists while Jenna Sayles chipped in with ten. Defensively, Hanken had three blocks along with Kennady Wiley and Gabrielle Jones. Schurr and Nicole Colombo both had seven digs for the Storm.

Malerie Ross led the Pioneers in kills on the night with nine as Rita Kelly and Greta Petofi both chipped in with seven. Sadie Hill continued her strong season, finishing with 24 assists. Defensively at the net, Kelly recorded three blocks, Ross and Petofi both had one as did Riley Tosseng. On the back line, Bryanne Tustin paced the Pioneers with 11 digs, followed by Morgan Stephenson and Isabella Bailey both having three.

Up Next For The Pioneers
GSU returns to action Friday night (Oct. 25) against West Liberty on the road. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
