Pioneers Drop Two Matches at Wheeling Tri-Match

Wheeling, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team dropped two matches today at the Wheeling tri-match, falling to the host Wheeling, 3-0 and Ohio Dominican, 3-0. 

Game One - GSU 0 | WU 3
Glenville State jumped out to an early lead in set one, leading by a score of 11-10, however the Cardinals stretched their lead late, winning set one, 25-19. In set two, Wheeling got out to an early lead, 13-5, and did not allow the Pioneers to gain any momentum in the set, with WU winning the set, 25-12. Set three saw the Pioneers come out quickly to an early lead 5-4 after a Larissa Howe kill but the Cardinals went on a run following that point, stretching their lead to 18-10. GSU fought back late but lost the set 25-18, and the match 3-0.

Final Stats
Wheeling
Aly Finch led the Cardinals with 10 kills and Bella DeBarr recorded eight. Nicole Reasbeck had 17 assists while Karly Niesen tallied ten. Emma Manser and Samantha Comer both had two blocks. Niesen, Chylyn Pate and Cami Black all recorded six digs apiece.

Glenville State
Rita Kelly finished with 12 kills in the match, with Keleigh Chrisman having 10, follwed by Greta Petofi and Larissa Howe both having three. Sadie Hill led the Pioneers in assists with 29 on the afternoon. Deniz Selen-Yazar, Howe, Petfofi, and Malerie Ross all had one block in the match. Morgan Stephenson led the team in digs with six and Bryanne Tustin chipped in six.

Game Two - GSU 0 | ODU 3
Game two saw the Pioneers match up with the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. GSU fought hard in the first two sets, having leads in both but coming up short, losing 25-19 in the first and second set. The third set saw GSU build an early lead 5-4, however ODU went on a run and the Pioneers could not recover ultimately losing set three, 25-8.

Ohio Dominican
The Panther attack was led by Brynn Clark with nine kills and Jenna Peters had eight. Macie Bowden had 21 assists, while Saige Avery had 16. Peters and Clark both recorded one block and Avery also recorded 12 digs while Christen Tarter pitched in 11.

Glenville State
Sadie Hill led the Pioneer attack with 16 kills and Rita Kelly tallied seven kills while Keleigh Chrisman had five. Greta Petofi chipped in with three kills in the match. Defensively, Morgan Stephenson had 12 kills to lead the Pioneers while Isabella Bailey totaled five.

Up Next For the Pioneers
The Pioneers return home for a Mountain East Conference matchup with Davis & Elkins on Tuesday. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start inside the Waco Center in Glenville.
