Struggles Continue for Pioneers in Loss to D&E

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team lost a home contest against the Senators of Davis & Elkins tonight, 3-1, inside the Waco Center.

The first set of the night was controlled by the Senators early, however the Pioneers would climb back to make it a 12-8 D&E lead. A run by the visitors would make the deficit too much to overcome, as GSU lost set one, 25-16. Set two started out similarly with D&E building a 6-0 early lead, but GSU made it a 13-10 game in the middle portion of the set. The match continued to a 21-19 D&E advantage and a short run would end set two, 25-19, in favor of the Senators. In set three, the Pioneers built an early lead and continued the good work to a 16-14 lead. GSU wouldn't squander their lead, winning the set, 25-21. The fourth set saw a back-and-forth affair early, the match would be tied at seven all, however an extended run by D&E denied the Pioneers a comeback, losing the set, 25-10, and the match, 3-1.

Davis & Elkins
Reanne Debose led the team with 20 kills while Gracjana Rozanska recorded eight. Haylie Marumoto recorded 40 assists in the match. Defensively, the Senators were led by Taylor Demankowski,and Clara Caralt both with 20 digs while Rozanska had five blocks.

Glenville State
The true freshmen led the way for the Pioneers offensively in the match with Keleigh Chrisman recording 10 kills and Riley Tosseng finishing with six. Lauryn O'Lenic also chipped in with five kills. Sadie Hill led the team in assists once again, tallying 26 on the evening. On the back line, Morgan Stephenson recorded 25 digs and Isabella Bailey chipped in with 16. At the net, O'Lenic also had two blocks.

Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers return to the Waco center for a MEC tilt on Friday evening (Nov. 1). The match is set for 7 p.m.
