GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team lost a tough conference game against the University of Charleston at home tonight, 2-1. The Pioneers record now stands at (6-7-2, 3-7-2 MEC).
1st Half
In the first half, the game started off back and forth with both teams fighting to find the back of the net. The first team to do so was Charleston, scoring at the 13-minute mark courtesy of Anna Van Der Reijden. The game continued to be back and forth with the Pioneers trying to even the score. At the 33-minute mark, the Pioneers tied the game on a goal from Sophia Calkins. Even though the Pioneers were outshot by the Golden Eagles, they ended the half tied, 1-1.
2nd Half
In the second half, the Pioneers looked to build on their late first half performance. With both teams having opportunities to score early in the second half, neither managed to find the back of the net until the 62-minute mark as Kim Smal scored a goal for the Golden Eagles. The Pioneers did all they could to try and answer back but fell short in the end, losing 2-1.
Final Stats
Charleston
Anna Van Der Reijden and Kim Smal scored a goal each for the Golden Eagles. Lina Jaime had the only assist for the Golden Eagles tonight. Reijden and Smal both also led the team in shots and shots on goal with two shots apiece and one shot on goal apiece. Jordan Maynard had one save on the game for the Golden Eagles.
Glenville State
Sophia Calkins scored Glenville's only goal of the game with Merel Smets assisting. Three different Pioneers led the team in shots tonight with one each. Calkins and Noelia Garcia led the team with shots on goal with one apiece.
Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers host West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday (Nov. 3) for senior day. First kick is slated for 6 pm at Morris Stadium.
