Volleyball Downed by Golden Eagles on Senior Night

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team was downed by Charleston on Tuesday night in Glenville. The Golden eagles won the match three sets to zero.

The first set was highly competitive for both sides as GSU jumped out to an early four-to-zero lead thanks to kills from Rita Kelly and Deniz Selen-Yazar, however UC would fight back and tie the game at nine. The set would work its way to 20-20 late but the Golden Eagles closed out the set with a Pia Selke kill, winning the first set, 25-23. The second set was controlled the entire way by UC, closing it out at 25-14. The third set was once again controlled early by the Golden Eagles as they raced out to a 9-1 lead, however the Pioneers would climb back to make it a three-point game late at 17-14 after a Rita Kelly kill but UC wouldn't not allow the Pioneers to get any closer, winning the set, 25-18.

Patrycja Majos led UC in kills with 12 and Pia Selke recorded 11. London Upchurch tallied 20 assists and Abby Avila added 13. Defensively, Upchurch led the team in digs with eight and Riley Hoff added six. At the net, Kate Strong recorded four blocks.

Glenville State
Senior Larissa Howe led the Pioneer attack on senior night with eight kills while Rita Kelly also recorded eight in the game and Keleigh Chrisman chipped in with six. Sadie Hill led the team in assists with 15 and senior Bella Baragona had 10. Defensively, Morgan Stephenson tallied six digs with senior Bryanne Tustin adding three. At the net, Greta Petofi had two blocks while Deniz Selen-Yazar had one.

Up Next For The Pioneers
Glenville State will conclude their season Friday (Nov. 15) night in Athens, W.Va., taking on the Mountain Lions of Concord. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
