Volleyball Swept at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team fell in three sets on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan last night.

In the first set, the Pioneers took an early lead thanks to a kill by Greta Petofi and a WVWC attack error, however GSU could not maintain the early momentum as the Bobcats went on an extended run and never trailed again, winning the first set, 25-10. In the second set, it was back and forth throughout as the stanza was tied late at 21 after a Malerie Ross service ace, however Wesleyan would hang on to win set two, 25-23. In the third set, GSU built an early lead 12-11 after a four-to-nothing but the Bobcats had a run of their own, putting the Pioneers away and winning the set, 25-17.

West Virginia Wesleyan
Olivia Albrecht led Wesleyan in kills with 11 and Sarah McCall recorded 18 assists to lead the team. Defensively, Emily Dennison recorded 11 digs and three blocks. Alauna Wilson also recorded three blocks in the match.

Glenville State
Deniz Selen-Yazar led the Pioneers in kills with seven while Rita Kelly and Keleigh Chrisman both pitched in with six each. Sadie Hill was once again the leading setter for Glenville State, as she had 18 in the game. Defensively, Isabella Bailey recorded eight digs with Morgan Stephenson recording seven. At the net, Selen-Yazar and Greta Petofi both had two blocks to lead the Pioneers.

Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers return home for Senior night next Tuesday (Nov. 12) to take on the Golden Eagles of Charelston. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside the Waco Cneter in Glenville.
