Preview: Pioneers, Tigers Meet for Annual Kids Day Matchup

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Men's Basketball hosts Salem (1-5) for their annual Kids Day game in the Waco Center tomorrow (Dec. 4). The Tigers beat the Pioneers two out of three times last year.

THE OPPENENT 
SALEM

2024-25 Season
Salem started their season (1-5) after loosing to West Liberty last Tuesday, 101-87. Salem's rough start to the season has seen them lose two close games with one coming against Seton Hill by five and Wheeling by one point.

Head Coach
Vince Thibodeau is in his second season as the Head Coach of the Salem Men's Basketball team. Thibodeau won six games in his first season in 2023-24. Before taking over at SU, Coach Thibodeau was the assistant coach at James Madison.

The Tigers have five player averaging double digit points with Tyree Davis and DJ Harrell averaging 12 points per game. On the boards, the Tigers are led by Isaac James, who averages a team high 8.7 rebounds per game. Jalen Barnes leads the team in assists with four per game. Six Salem tigers lead the team in steals with one steal each.

2024-25 Season
The Pioneers record now stands at (3-4, 1-2 MEC) after losing both matchups last week against the University of Charleston and Seton Hill, falling under .500 for the first time this season.

The Pioneers are led in scoring by Devin Collins, who is averaging 15 points per game. On the boards, the Pioneers are led by center Prince Mosengo's 10.9 rebounds per game along with 10 points per game. Three different Pioneers are tied for averaging the most assists on the team with two assists a game. On defense, guard Gus Eddy leads the team in steals with 1.5 steals per game and Mosengo leads the team in blocks with 0.9 blocks per game. Paul Gakmar has the best shooting percentage on the team, shooting 63% from the field while averaging 8.7 points per game. Freshman Ammar Maxwell has been a bright spot for the Pioneers this season, averaging 7.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 2.7 APG.
