THE OPPONENTS
DAVIS & ELKINS
The Senators enter (12-10, 7-7 MEC) after getting swept last week by West Liberty and Wheeling. Prior to last week's losses, D&E had won three in a row.
Daniel Mondragon is in his fifth season at the helm of the Senators MBB program. After a disappointing 2021-22 season, Mondragon led the Senators to an historic 2022-23 season, gathering 19 wins which marked the most in a single season in program history. He came to D&E after four seasons as the HC for the DME Sports Academy in Florida while also serving as the Director of Player Development.
Sam Rolle IV is second in the MEC in scoring at 18.2 PPG and second in the league in assists at 5.5 APG. Tristan Starks and Vadim Clanet are both averaging 11.0 PPG for the Senators. Clarens Pierre is grabbing a team leading 6.8 RPG and adding 8.9 PPG on the offensive end.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
The Bobcats come in (2-20, 1-13 MEC) and are losers of their last five games. WVWC last picked up a win on Jan. 24 at Frostburg State.
Derek Sloan is in his third season as HC of the Bobcats. Under Sloan, WVWC has only amassed five wins in his two-plus seasons. He was previously an assistant at WVWC for two seasons before having the interim tag being placed and taken off during the summer of 2021. Sloan was also an assistant at Culver Military Academy and played collegiately at Cleveland State.
Deiker Padrino is sixth in the MEC in scoring, averaging 16.3 PPG. Alex Mirhosseini is the only other Bobcat scoring double digits at 12.9 PPG while dishing out 3.3 APG, which is first on the squad. Maxwell Harris pulls down 5.6 RPG to lead the team.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
The Pioneers enter the new week (11-11, 6-8 MEC) following a split last week against Salem (W, 77-74) and Notre Dame College (L, 88-77).
Jordan Turbo Smith continues to lead the team in scoring (13.8 PPG), assists (4.9 APG) and steals (1.7 SPG). Dominiq Penn is not too far behind Smith, averaging 13.2 PPG on 43% shooting from the field. Devin Collins grabs 5.7 RPG, which leads the team and scores 13.1 PPG to aid the offensive efforts.
