GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team bounced back from a 9-2 Friday (Feb. 16) loss with a doubleheader sweep today over Clarion. The Pioneers took game one 5-3 and game two 5-4, winning the series.
Game One – GSU 2 | Clarion 9
CU used a two out double and an error by the Pioneers to open the scoring up in the top of the 1st. In the bottom half of the inning, Fabian Escalante doubled to the left-center gap to bring in Zach Morris after he walked, tying it at one apiece. A scoreless second was followed by a three-run 3rd inning and one-run 4th inning for the Golden Eagles, hitting two home runs in the third.
The Pioneers loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th, bringing in Jayden Helmick on a Luis Liriano sacrifice fly. Clarion managed the damage, getting out of the inning on a ground out to short. The Golden Eagles pulled away late, scoring three runs in the 8th inning and one in the 9th inning, eventually closing out GSU.

Carlos De Jesus went 2-4 while Luis Liriano and Fabian Escalante both had an RBI. Diego Tamariz was handed the loss after 2.1 IP, allowing 3 ER on 3 H, 3 BB and striking out six. The Pioneers exhausted six bullpen arms in the loss.
Mason Kepler was 2-4 with a team leading 5 RBI while three other Golden Eagles finished with an RBI. Reilly Shafer went six innings, giving up 2 ER on just two hits and striking out 10. Vinnie Markulin was awarded the save following three innings of no run relief.
Game Two – GSU 5 | Clarion 3
After Cole Grady got out of the one out, bases loaded jam in the 1st inning, the Pioneers produced early offense in the bottom half of the first. Zac Bayor and Zach Morris led the game off with singles and then Fabian Escalante roped one to left, scoring Bayor and Morris made it home after the ball got past the left fielder. Carlos De Jesus finished the scoring for the inning with a sacrifice fly. The bases were once again loaded on Cole Grady in the top of the 2nd, however he managed to get out the jam again.
Following a scoreless second inning, Sebastian Collender added to the Pioneers lead with an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 3rd. Cole Grady's day ended after four innings of scoreless work as Adam Bright entered in the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th, GSU loaded the bases but left them all stranded with the inning ending on a groundout. Zach Morris capitalized on his opportunity in the bottom of the 6th, recording an RBI single to make it 5-0 after six. Grant Landis took on a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 7th, striking out the first two batters he saw. An error allowed Clarion to plate three runs, however Landis got the final out on a flyout.

Fabian Escalante went 4-4, earning an RBI to lead the Pioneers. Sebastian Collender, Carlos De Jesus and Zach Morris all added an RBI as well with Morris recording two hits. Cole Grady took the win, going 4.0 IP with 6 Ks, 2 H and no runs. Adam Bright pitched two innings of relief and Grant Landis recorded the save.
Ethan Giangiulio had two hits, which led the Golden Eagles. Grant Snyder only went 1.1 IP, taking the loss and giving up three runs (one earned) on 3 H, 1 BB and striking out two. The bullpen pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks.
Game Three – GSU 5 | Clarion 4
The Golden Eagles came out swinging, leading the game off with a single and an opposite field HR to right. Nathan Farmer was able to prevent anymore damage, forcing a double play to end the top of the 1st. The Pioneers had a runner in scoring position with one out in the bottom half of the 2nd, however relief pitcher Bobby Curry halted that opportunity with a line out and strikeout. Cayden Content connected on his second opposite field two-run HR of the day in the top of the 3rd to make it a 4-0 game. Josue Matos escaped a bases loaded jam with a strikeout to close out the top half of the inning.
Glenville had a huge bottom of the 4th, loading the bases with nobody out. From there, Zac Bayor walked to bring a run in, Caden Hall grounded out but brought Mason Lohr home, Fabian Escalante roped one to right to make it 4-3 and Zach Laurie gave GSU their first lead of the game (5-4) with a 2-RBI single to center. Austin Corn came into the game in the top of the 6th, inheriting runners at first and second with one out. Clarion's William Martinex then lined out to first and Lance Minson touched the bag to round out the double play. A strike em out, throw em out and a grounder to second in the top of the 7th secured the Pioneers second win of the day.

Fabian Escalante went 3-3 with an RBI and Zach Laurie finished with 2 RBI to lead the Pioneers. Caden Hall and Zac Bayor also had an RBI each. Josue Matos picked up the win out of the pen, going 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Austin Corn picked up the save after coming in during the 6th inning.
Caden Contant had two home runs with 4 RBI to lead the Golden Eagles. Scotty McManamon was a reliable bat, going 3-4. Isaac Schleich took the loss after coming in during the 4th inning, allowing two runs (both earned) on two hits. In total, Clarion used five bullpen arms in the loss.
