THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE

The Yellow Jackets come in (8-11) and are losers of their last three games. WVSU finished the 2023 campaign (16-29, 10-22 MEC), missing out on the MEC Tournament.

Mattie Best is in her 6th season leading the WVSU Softball program after being the Interim Head Coach in 2017. In her six seasons at the helm, Best has won one MEC Regular Season title, one MEC Tournament championship and appeared two NCAA Atlantic Regionals. She played collegiately at WVSU, starting all four years for the Yellow Jackets.

Kerigan Moore leads WVSU in average at .362 with 3 RBI. Emma Pauley is first on the team in RBI (10) while Kaitlyn Cabral has 2 HR, which leads the squad. As a team, WVSU has three home runs and an average of .258. Autumn Thompson leads the pitching staff, starting nine games with 38 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.17.

CHARLESTON
The Golden Eagles enter (12-1) with their only loss coming to Winona State in Florida on Mar. 1. UC went (45-12, 27-5 MEC) in 2023, winning the MEC Tournament Championship and reaching the NCAA Super Regional, eventually losing to East Stroudsburg.

Michelle Frew is in her third season as HC of the Golden Eagles. She led UC to their first ever MEC Championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2023. Frew came to Charleston after spending 25 years at Rollins College, winning the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year award four times. In her 28 years of coaching, Frew's players have earned 24 All-American awards, 93 Regional Awards and 144 players have earned conference recognition.

To no surprise, Hannah Rose leads UC in average (.436), hits (17) and stolen bases (9) while adding a HR and 10 RBI. Isabella Andujar and Allysa Lake are tied for the team lead in home runs with two each but it's Lake who is also putting up 15 RBI and batting .400. Brianna McCown is 8-1 with a 2.32 ERA, seven complete games and 56 strikeouts through 45.1 innings of work this season.
