Preview: Softball Slated for Six Games this Week

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Softball is scheduled to play six Mountain East Conference games this week, traveling to Concord tomorrow (Mar. 20) before hosting West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday (Mar. 23) and Davis & Elkins on Sunday (Mar. 24). In last year's matchups, the Pioneers took three out of four against Concord, split with D&E and lost three out of four against WVWC.

THE OPPONENTS 
CONCORD 

The Mountain Lions enter (13-11, 1-3 MEC), being swept by #16 Charleston splitting with West Virginia State over the weekend. 

Lacie Lewis is off to a hot start to the year, batting .351 with an OPS of 1.028, 27 hits, 4 HR and 22 RBI. Courtney Raines leads the squad in average at .356, while adding 26 hits and 17 RBI to her season total. Other than Lewis, five Mountain Lions have hit a HR, bringing the team total to nine. Madison Hollis (3.50 ERA) and Nancy-Jo Roberts (3.94 ERA) are atop the pitching leaderboard for Concord, combing for 11 wins in 18 starts and 63 strikeouts. 

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN 
The Bobcats come in (8-11, 0-4 MEC) after being swept by Fairmont State and Frostburg State to open conference play.  

Returning MEC Freshman of the Year Andie Dizon currently leads WVWC in AVG (.429), OPS (.994), hits (24), HR (1) and RBI (16). Dizon is also tied for the team lead in doubles with three. Kendall Stoffel (.412) and Brooklyn Osburn (.350) are the only other Bobcats batting over .300. Stoffel, the 2023 MEC Pitcher of the Year, is currently posting an ERA of 2.56 with a record of 5-3. 

DAVIS & ELKINS 
The Senators are (12-9, 1-3 MEC), getting swept by Frostburg State and splitting with Fairmont State this past weekend. 

Linzey Allard (.381 AVG, 3 HR and 23 RBI) and Alyssa Haynes (.338 AVG, 4 HR and 20 RBI) lead the Senator lineup. Sammie Jarvis has already picked up seven wins while also posting an ERA of 3.17 and striking out 59. D&E's pitching staff holds a 4.88 ERA through 21 games. 

THE PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE
 
The Pioneers enter the weekend (7-8, 1-3 MEC), losing their last two games against #16 Charleston. On Saturday, GSU split with West Virginia State.  

Kylee Goodman is first on the blue and white in average (.468), hits (22) and stolen bases (3) while Delaney Warnick is bringing the power to the lineup, posting 5 HR and 16 RBI with a .308 AVG. Monica Rodelo has also brought plenty of pop this season, batting .300 with 4 HR and a team leading 17 RBI. 

Freshman Meghan Stump now leads the GSU pitching staff, giving up just four earned runs over 27 innings of work. Stump's ERA sits at 1.04 currently, followed by Holly Brehm's 1.13 ERA and 49 strikeouts. Caitlyn Kassay (2.53 ERA) and Kylie Burdick (3.73 ERA) have also started the season off strong.
