Baseball Splits with Tiffin to Start Four-Game Series

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team split with Tiffin today to open their four-game series, falling 9-4 in game one but taking game two by a score of 11-3. The Pioneers were held to just three hits in the first game, bouncing back with 12 in the second game.

Game One – GSU 4 | Tiffin 9
A single and double set up a three-run homer for Tiffin in the top of the 1st, jumping out to the early lead. In the bottom of the 1st, the bases would be loaded and the Pioneers were able to cross two runs over, trimming the Dragons lead to 3-2. Another homer in the top of the 4th, this time a two-run shot, allowed TU to go back up by three. Four runs in the top of the 5th overshadowed the Pioneers scoring two in the bottom of the 5th as that would be the final runs either squad would score with Tiffin taking game one 9-4.

Box Score
Mason Lohr, Jesus Del Valle and Luis Liriano all picked up a hit, the only hits for the Pioneers. Diego Tamariz took the loss after allowing seven runs (all earned) on six hits and two walks.

Cal Brazier and Isaiah Mirab both recorded two hits with Mirab collecting 4 RBI and Brazier 3 RBI. Seven other Dragons picked up a hit. Noah Kandel grabbed his first win of the season, allowing four runs (all earned) on two hits and seven walks.

Game Two – GSU 11 | Tiffin 3
After Julian Minaya got out of an early jam, the bats came alive in the bottom of the 1st when Zach Morris hit a 2-run HR. Tiffin chipped into the lead with a home run of their own in the top of the second, however the Pioneers were able to answer with a big bottom half of the 2nd. Mason Lohr, Zach Morris and Carlos De Jesus all picked up RBI singles while Zac Bayor and Lance Minson drew walks to earn an RBI. Jesus Del Valle capped off the inning with a 2-RBI single.

In the top of the 3rd, the Dragons added two runs to the board while the Pioneers put their 10th and 11th run across the plate in the bottom of the 6th. TU went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th, securing the split for the day to open up the series.
