GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State athletes Payten Semenske and Gavin Shamblin have been named Pioneers of the Week, the GSU Athletic Department announced today. 

Semenske, a junior base from Statesville, N.C., competed in nine events at yesterday's meet where the Pioneer Acrobatics & Tumbling team defeated Trine. Seven of those nine were season-high scores for the team and eight were 9.00+ totals. Her strongest performance was in the Pyramid Event, scoring 9.95 in both the inversion and duo heats as well as a 9.80 in the open heat. 

Shamblin, a four-year member of the wrestling team, qualified for his first nationals this past weekend at the NCAA Super Region 3 Tournament. The heavyweight wrestler took 2nd after advancing to the final with a win over La'Ron Parks (NDC), who Shamblin had never beat in his career.
