Lady Pioneers Fall to Notre Dame College in MEC Tournament

WHEELING, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team lost in overtime to 10th seeded Notre Dame College earlier today in the opening round of the MEC Tournament at WesBanco Arena. The Lady Pioneers forced 38 turnovers but were outrebounded 56-43 by the Falcons.

It would be five minutes until GSU got on the board when Esther Oluade converted on a jumper in the paint. NDC wasn't able to produce much offense either as Notre Dame held a small 18-15 advantage after one quarter of play. The Lady Pioneers took their first lead of the contest in the 2nd quarter when Dream Cherry connected on a wing side three-pointer. The Falcons grabbed the lead back before half, leading 31-28 going into the locker room.

Glenville State fell behind by six in the 3rd quarter, however a surge by the GSU offense allowed the Lady Pioneers to put themselves ahead of the Falcons, eventually leading by two (48-46) going into the 4th quarter. The blue and white's lead grew to as much as 12 with 4:36 left in the game. From there, NDC climbed their way back into the game, forcing overtime. The squads would go basket for basket in OT, coming down to the final possessions. Late free throws sealed the deal for the Falcons, closing out the 82-78 victory.

The Final Stats
Hya Haywood produced a game-high 29 points, followed up by Chalon Miles' 21-point performance. Lauren Calhoun led the rebounding efforts with eight in the loss.

Lilee Carlson finished with 28 points while Karli Anker (18 points) and Noel Weathers (15 points) were key for the Falcons on the offensive end. Weathers added on to her 15-point performance with 13 rebounds.
