THE OPPONENT
WINSTON-SALEM STATE
2025-26 Season
The Rams come into the NCAA Tournament (26-3) overall with one of their three losses coming at the hands of a Division I opponent, North Carolina A&T. WSSU went (14-2) in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and won both the conference regular season championship and conference tournament championship, beating fellow NCAA Tournament squad, Fayetteville State, for the CIAA title.

Quick Look at The Rams
The Rams were nothing like what the CIAA Preseason Poll said they would be, as the Rams were selected to finish seventh and had just one conference preseason team selection. The team's leading scorer, Maia Charles, who averages 13.0 PPG, was named All-CIAA Second Team and to the All-Tournament team with fellow Second Teamer Nevaeh Farmer being third on the squad in scoring at 10.5 PPG. Guard Breonna Roaf started 16 games and averages 5.7 PPG, 3.9 RPG and 2.2 APG to win CIAA Rookie of the Year. Makayla Waleed was the CIAA Tournament MVP and is the team's second leading scorer at 10.7 PPG while grabbing 4.6 RPG.

As a team, WSSU is averaging 66.4 PPG and giving up a nation's fourth-best 51.4 PPG. The Rams are holding opponents to just 18 made field goals per game and a 34% clip from the field. Additionally, Winston-Salem State is outrebounding their opponents by five rebounds per contest and force over 26 turnovers each night out.

THE LADY PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2025-26 Season
The Lady Pioneers enter March Madness with a (24-6) overall record, previously falling in the Mountain East Conference championship game to the University of Charleston, 48-43, on Sunday (Mar. 8). Glenville State won the MEC regular season championship with a league mark of (16-4), which was the program's first league title since 2023.

Quick Look at The Lady Pioneers
Third-year head coach Emily Stoller is no stranger to the NCAA Tournament, as the former Lady Pioneer standout logged three bids (2018, 2019, 2020) into the March spectacle as a player. Now, as a coach, she leads the Lady Pioneers into postseason play with two double-digit scorers (Carine Pinkney – 14.7 PPG, Nwando Okigbo – 11.4 PPG) and three All-Conference selections (Pinkney – First Team, Okigbo – Second Team, Khalia Bryant – Second Team. Okigbo averages 8.7 RPG and tied the MEC Tournament single game record against West Liberty with an astounding 25 boards in the Lady Pioneers quarterfinal victory. Wonder Nkoyock has come along nicely as of late, reaching double figures in Glenville State's semifinal win over Fairmont State and is averaging 8.8 PPG on the year. Senior guard Stevi Yancy has controlled the pace all season for the offense, averaging 8.8 PPG, 3.8 RPG and a team-leading 2.6 APG.

Offensively, the Lady Pioneers average a league-best and third nationally 84.6 PPG with 271 made threes, which is first in the conference (37 more than any MEC team) and 7th in the country. Defensively, GSU forces 26.5 turnovers per game (1st MEC, 5th nationally) and averages 14.9 steals per contest (1st MEC, 6th nationally).
