Preview: Softball Heads to Northern Panhandle to Square Off with Wheeling & West Liberty

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Softball heads to the northern panhandle to face Wheeling tomorrow (Apr. 7) and West Liberty on Monday (Apr. 8). The Pioneers swept the Cardinals and the Hilltoppers last year.

THE OPPONENTS 
WHEELING 

The Cardinals enter (4-30, 0-12 MEC), losing their last 12 games. Wheeling last won on Mar. 16 against Salem. 

Mallory Chapman is in her first season as the HC of the Cardinals. She spent three seasons as an assistant at WHL before taking over the program. Chapman played four seasons at Wheeling, holding onto the MEC strikeout record with 682 strikeouts until Holly Brehm broke the record last year.  

Cassie Feyh leads the team in average (.367), hits (36), doubles (10) and RBI (19) while Madison Kay has brought the most power to the lineup, producing a team leading four home runs with 12 RBI. As a staff, WHL puts up a 12.22 ERA with Tessa Wise pouring at the lowest with a 9.21 ERA. 

WEST LIBERTY 
The Hilltoppers come in (10-20, 5-7 MEC) and have lost their last four games, getting swept by Fairmont State and Frostburg State last weekend. 

Sara Pelegreen is in her first year at the helm of the WLU Softball program. Pelegreen came to West Liberty after four seasons at Wheeling as the HC and three years as an assistant at Robert Morris. While at Wheeling, she led them to back-to-back 20 win seasons and their first-ever MEC Tournament Championship appearance in 2018. 

Five Hilltoppers are batting .300 or better, led by Sydney Johnson's .340 AVG and 32 hits. Three other West Liberty hitters have at least two home runs with Mallory Rosnick leading the charge with three. Kadence Pettit has the most wins (6), strikeouts (52) and complete games (6) with an ERA of 4.58. Madison Angus is the #2 starter with a 5.82 ERA. 

THE PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE 

The Pioneers are (10-15, 4-10 MEC) following a split at West Virginia State last Saturday.  

Kylee Goodman is batting over .400 at .410 with 32 hits, four doubles, a triple, 2 HR and 10 RBI. Delaney Warnick has brought plenty of power to the lineup, hammering 6 HR and 20 RBI with an average of .280. Monica Rodelo and Emma McLean have both went deep four times while bringing in a combined 27 runs. 

Holly Brehm currently sits at 1.98 with her ERA, recording five wins, seven complete games and 95 strikeouts as well. Meghan Stump (2.36) and Kylie Burdick (3.00) have pitched well for the Pioneers thus far. Burdick has secured three wins while Caitlyn Kassay sits at two victories.
