GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team notched their first win of the season in a thrilling five-set match with WVU Tech in their first home game of the year tonight inside the Waco Center.
The Pioneers started the night off hot by winning the first set 25-15, however the Golden Bears rallied and preceded to win the next two sets, 25-23, and 25-19, respectively. This put the Pioneers' backs against the wall, needing to win set four to extend the match and the Pioneers came through, forcing a fifth set by a score of 25-20.
After the five-minute break to gear up for the first-to-fifteen 5
th set, the Golden Bears had control early with a 6-3 lead. However, the Pioneers would bounce back and win the race to ten, causing a WVU Tech timeout. The set was back and forth all the way to the end as no team could get the decisive point to win the match by two. As the game was tied at 23, the Pioneers would end up winning the last two points by a
Keleigh Chrisman kill and a
Bryanne Tustin service ace.

Addison White paced the Golden Bears tonight with 18 kills, followed by Peydon Smith and Emily Stack both recording 10. In the assist column, Marianna Oyola Rivera led the team with 24 on the night and Anais Gonzalez had 22. On the defensive side, Peydon Smith had 20 total digs and Brooke Presley tallied 17.
Glenville State
Rita Kelly and
Malerie Ross led the team in kills with 20 each, along with
Sadie Hill reaching 47 assists on the evening. Defensively, the Pioneers were led by
Isabella Bailey with 23 digs while Ross added 18 in the win.
