GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team took their first loss of the season tonight against West Virginia State, 2-0, at Morris Stadium. The Pioneers fall to (2-1, 0-1 MEC).
1st Half
The first half was dominated by the Yellow Jackets as they led the first half with eight shots and five shots on goal.
Lucia Lopez worked to prevent the Yellow Jackets from scoring with four saves in the first half. However, the Yellow Jackets finally found the back of the net curtesy of Karissa Vela. She was assisted by Aika Tobaru on the goal.
2nd Half
In the second half, the Pioneers fought hard to come back from their 1-0 deficient while leading the second half in shots. Their efforts were halted at the 74-minute mark when Sandra Linares assisted on a goal from Ammy Mwasambu.
Final Stats
West Virginia State
Karissa Vela and Ammy Mwasambu led the Yellow Jackets in goals with one apiece. Both Aika Tobaru and Sandra Linares had assists for WVSU. Karissa Vela also led the team with six shots and three shots on goal. Laura Galindo had three saves in the win.
Glenville State
Merel Smets led the Pioneers with four shots in tonight's game. Right behind her was
Marcelle Stoller with two shots. Three different Pioneers had a shot on goal.
Lucia Lopez gave her best efforts to pick up five saves for GSU in the loss.
