Volleyball Returns to West Virginia with Win Over Salem on the Road

SALEM, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team recorded their second win of the season in convincing fashion over Salem, 3-0, on Tuesday evening.

The Pioneers won all three sets 25-19, 25-17 anf 25-18. In the first set, GSU recorded the first point and were the first to ten and 25. In the second set, the Pioneers fell behind 10-5 but responded by winning the next five points and never looked back, collecting 15 points before the Tigers could get seven. In the third and final set, the Pioneers controlled the tempo the whole way, never trailing by more than two points and closing out the Tigers to sweep the match, 3-0.

Salem
Jocelyn Rios had seven kills, Noemi Combi had six kills and Arianna Parsley had 15 assists. Defensively, the Tigers were active on the backline, with Sydney Kopshina recording 11 digs and Mikaela McEvoy had eight.

Glenville State
The Pioneers were led offensively by Rita Kelly once again as she recorded 10 kills on the night, while Keleigh Chrisman had six and Deniz Selen-Yazar had five. Sadie Hill was the leader in the assist category, having 23 on the night. Defensively, the Pioneers were active and had three players with five or more digs as Kelly had eight, Bryanne Tustin had seven and Malerie Ross had six. Greta Petofi had three total blocks while Ross, Selen-Yazar, Kelly and Chrisman had one.

Up Next For The Pioneers
GSU will return to the floor next Friday, September 27th, on the road against Fairmont State at Joe Retton Arena for a conference matchup against the Falcons. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
