Pioneers Swept by Falcons in Conference Opener

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team fell to Fairmont State on the road at Joe Retton arena tonight, 3-0, to open MEC play.

In the first set, GSU was within two points at 17-15, however they couldn't close the gap anymore and lost the set 25-17. In the second set, the Pioneers led 2-1 early but were unable to add onto their lead, ultimately losing the set 25-15. In the third set, GSU went on a run and scored seven points in a row and got the score to 18-17 and tied the match at 22. Unfortunately, the Falcons were too much to overcome as the set ended 25-22 FSU.

Fairmont State
The Falcons were paced offensively by Joey Borelle, tallying 12 kills and Baylie Ostvig with ten. Kelsie Dangerfield recorded 22 assists. Defensively, FSU was led by Borelle, who had 10 digs while Chloe McDaniel, Alexa Martin, and Natalie Zemba pitched in three blocks each for the Falcons.

Glenville State
The Pioneers were led offensively by true freshman Keleigh Chrisman with 12 kills and Rita Kelly with 11. Sadie Hill once again led the Pioneers in assists with 29. Defensively, GSU was led by Morgan Stephenson with eight digs and Kelly with three blocks.

The Pioneers will return to the floor October 1st at Davis & Elkins with the contest beginning at 7 p.m. at the McDonnell Center in Elkins W.Va.
