SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team fell to Edinboro, 3-1, and Mars Hill, 3-0, earlier today at the Ram Rumble, hosted by Shepherd University. The Pioneers are (0-2) to open the season.
Game One – GSU 1 | EU 3
The Pioneers scored five unanswered points to begin the first set, however Edinboro fought back to tie the game up at 10 all. From there, EU held onto the lead for the remainder of the set, eventually closing it out at 25-17. The second set was dominated by GSU as the Pioneers cruised to a 25-14 set victory. The Fighting Scots bounced back from the second set defeat with back-to-back victories in the third and fourth set to take the match, 3-1.

Makayla Neelands led the way with 17 kills, followed by Jessica Hardin (nine kills) and Erika Lindqvist (eight kills). Abigale Soboleski notched 16 assists and Laney Burns finished with 14 assists. Carly Pry led the defense with nine digs while three Fighting Scots recorded seven digs each.
Glenville State
Rita Kelly and
Larissa Howe both led the way with six kills. Freshman
Deniz Selen Yazar debuted with five kills in the loss. Barton College transfer
Sadie Hill recorded 19 assists and seven digs.
Morgan Stephenson totaled eight digs and Kelly was a force defensively as well, tallying a team leading six blocks.
Game Two – GSU 0 | MHU 3
Mars Hill took control of the first set early, going up 15-5 before pulling away to win the set, 25-13. In the second set, the Pioneers were in it until the end when the Lions went on a 5-1 run to claim the stanza, 25-17. MHU once again controlled a set, this time in the third as GSU kept it close early on kills by
Malerie Ross and
Larissa Howe, but Mars Hill got on a roll and were victorious in the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.

Kaitlyn Grant had seven kills, followed by three Lions who all finished with five kills each. MacKenzie Schmucker tallied 15 assists and five digs in the win. Laela Jimenez was the lone Lion to record double-digit digs with 17.
Glenville State
Rita Kelly led the Pioneers with seven kills in the loss.
Sadie Hill (eight assists) and
Bella Baragona (six assists) were the leading passers for GSU.
Bryanne Tustin led the defensive effort with 16 digs and was accompanied by
Malerie Ross' 12 assists.
