GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team opened the 2024 season with a 2-0 win over Lake Erie College today at Morris Stadium. The Pioneers outshot the Storm 15-6 en route to the victory.
1st Half
The Pioneers controlled the game from the start, maintaining possession and holding the Storm from getting a shot off for the first 17 and a half minutes. At the 27-minute mark,
Graylin Floyd scored the first goal of the year for Glenville State on an assist from
Noelia Garcia. GSU added onto their lead right before the end of the half when Floyd found the back of the net once again, leaving just one second on the clock.
2nd Half
Glenville State stayed aggressive in the second half but continued to keep control of the game. There were very few chances for Lake Erie to score and the Pioneers had a few knocks at the goal, however neither team could put a goal on the board. The scoreless second half didn't hurt GSU as the Pioneers captured their first win of the season, 2-0.
Final Stats
Lake Erie
Leonie Witt led the Storm with three shots, including two shots on goal. Alyvia Sanom also had a shot on goal. Morgan Vanmeter allowed two goals and recorded five saves in the loss.
Glenville State
Graylin Floyd bagged both goals for the Pioneers on three total shots.
Aitana Viejo and
Noelia Garcia both assisted Floyd in those scores.
Marcelle Stoller had the most shots for the GSU with four and three Pioneers recorded two shots each.
Lucia Lopez debuted with three saves.

The Pioneers hit the road for the first time this year on Wednesday when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan. First kick is slated for 5 p.m.
