BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team has been picked 3
rd in the Mountain East Conference Southern Division Preseason Poll, the league announced today. The poll was conducted by the conference's 11 head coaches.
The Pioneers were picked behind Charleston (53 points) and Davis & Elkins (47 points) as the Golden Eagles received eight first-place votes and the Senators notched the final three. Behind the Pioneers were Concord (29), West Virginia Wesleyan (18) and West Virginia State (15).
Fairmont State is picked to win the Northern Division, earning 44 points and eight first-place votes. Frostburg State secured the other three votes and 37 points to take 2
nd. West Liberty (29), Wheeling (16) and Point Park (14) rounded out the poll.
Glenville State is coming off one of the best seasons in program history, winning 26 games (most since joining the MEC) and finishing 2
nd in the MEC Southern Division (highest finish in school history). The Pioneers were ranked 7
th in the Atlantic Region late in the season, the highest ranking in program history. GSU returns eight out of their nine starters in the lineup and three out of their four pitchers in the rotation.
