Cherry's 27 Points Not Enough in Lady Pioneers Loss at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers fell to Frostburg State, 96-88, on Wednesday night at Bobcat Arena. With the loss, GSU splits the season series with the Bobcats.

Head coach Emily Stoller's team fell behind early in quarter one and gave up 27 first quarter points to the Bobcats. In the second stanza, Dream Cherry hit three three-point jump shots to keep the FSU lead at 10 going into the locker room at halftime with the score 50-40.

GSU got back in the game with a 24-point explosion in the third quarter with baskets from Nwando Okigbo, Jhakia Gist, Tynasia Bunting and Dejaan Schuler to make the score 66-64 with 10 minutes left to play. However, the Bobcats would take control of the game with back-to-back threes, ultimately winning, 96-88.

Emilee Weakley, the nation's leading scorer, had 35 points to lead the way while Julie Spinelli had 16 and Alanna Tate had 15. Other contributors were Taylor Smith (14 points) and Sarah Shamdeen (six points). Jasmine Johnson led the team in rebounding with 12.

Glenville State
Dream Cherry had 27 points as she knocked down seven threes and Jade Salters added 13 points and three boards. Nwando Okigbo had her fourth-straight double-double with 11 points and a team leading 14 boards. GSU also got points from Dejaan Schuler (11) and Tynasia Bunting (9).

The Lady Pioneers return to the Waco Center on Saturday to host No. 25 Fairmont State Falcons. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
