SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Glenville State Softball team had a 5-1 lead slip away in their season opener against Limestone in the Valkyrie Classic earlier today. The Pioneers second game against Lynn was ruled a 'no contest' when weather ended the game in the bottom of the 4th inning. The game will not be counted a tie or to either team's W-L record as well as to player's overall stats.
Game One - GSU 5 | Limestone 6
Following two scoreless innings, Shelby McDaniels doubled in the Pioneers first runs of the new season, giving GSU a 2-0 advantage in the top of the 3rd. Limestone answered back quickly with a sac fly in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit in half. Saint Peter's transfer Zailees Seda made an immediate impact in her first game in the blue and white with a huge three-run home run in the top of the 4th to put the Pioneers up by four.
The Saints had a four-run fifth inning to knot the game back up with a three-run HR of their own and an RBI single. With the game still tied in the bottom of the 7th, LU used a leadoff double, wild pitch and a walk-off RBI single up the middle to capture the 6-5 victory.

Limestone
Four Saints finished with two hits while Olivia Veidt notched three RBI and Emma King added two RBIs. Allie Boone had the final RBIs for LU. Chelsey Stonesifer went the full seven innings with five runs (all earned) on seven hits, four walks and one strikeout.
Glenville State
Zailees Seda led the way in her Pioneer debut, going 3-4 with three RBIs. Shelby McDaniels, Kylee Goodman, Emma McLean and Makenna Negly all chimed in with a hit while McDaniels added two RBIs. Madison Pitts took the loss after coming in relief for Kylie Burdick, who went five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks.

The Pioneers will square off with Catawba (12 p.m.) and Erskine (3 p.m.) to continue the Valkyrie Classic.
