Curry Has Five Blocks in Pioneers Loss to Charleston

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Volleyball hosted the University of Charleston for a Mountain East Conference southern division matchup on Friday (Oct. 10) evening inside the Waco Center with UC winning the match three sets to zero.

Charleston would control set one from the opening point, holding a lead throughout and forcing a Glenville State timeout at 15-8, and would not give up the lead to take set one 25-14. In the second set, Glenville State built an early lead after solid plays at the net, forcing a UC timeout at 7-2 in favor of the Pioneers. Coming out of the break, the Golden Eagles would go on a run, forcing a blue and white timeout. It went on to be a back-and-forth affair in the race to 25 points, but UC would pull away late, winning set two, 25-22. Set three saw the Pioneers leading early once again with a 10-6 advantage. However, the game would be tied at 17 in the late stages and the teams were trading points, but the visitors were able to win set three, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.

Charleston
Giuliana Batista led the Golden Eagles with 12 kills while Patrycja Majos and Sophia Knowles both had 10 and Abby Avila had 38 assists. On defense, Kate Strong had two blocks and both Avila and Batista had seven digs.

Glenville State
Rita Kelly, Mikayla Curry, Kaiya Lian and Cali Queen all had six kills to lead the team while Elitsa Peneva had 17 assists and Sadie Hill chipped in 16. Defensively, Curry had five blocks and Kelly had three.

Up Next For The Pioneers
Glenville State will travel to Concord to take on the Mountain Lions on Tuesday (Oct. 14). The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
