BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Soccer team fell 3-1 earlier tonight in Buckhannon, losing to West Virginia Wesleyan in a crucial MEC matchup. The Pioneers and Bobcats are now tied for fourth place in the MEC South Division at (4-6-1) in league play.
1st Half
The match opened with both sides battling for momentum from the beginning, but it was West Virginia Wesleyan who struck first in the 11th minute, capitalizing on an early chance to go ahead 1–0. Glenville State held their shape through the remainder of the half, with goalkeeper Lucia Lopez and the defense stepping up to withstand multiple attacks from the Bobcats. Despite limited opportunities in the attacking third, the Pioneers stayed organized and trailed by just a goal at the break.
2nd Half
Coming out of halftime, Glenville State responded quickly. In the 53rd minute, Natalia Bernal found the back of the net off a clean assist from Brooklyn Watts, leveling the match at 1–1 and sparking energy for the visitors. But Wesleyan answered just three minutes later with a go-ahead strike from Ava Badallo, then extended their lead late in the 80th minute through Kailey Garofalo. The Pioneers kept pushing forward but couldn't break down the Bobcats' defense. Despite the loss, Glenville battled until the final whistle and showed resilience against a strong Wesleyan attack that outshot them 20–2.
