GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Soccer team delivered a strong performance on Sunday afternoon, closing out the week with a 2-0 win over Davis & Elkins at Morris Stadium.
1st Half
After a back-and-forth opening 30 minutes, the Pioneers struck first when Solares Solano buried a clean finish off a perfectly timed assist from Brooklyn Watts, putting Glenville on the board in the 31st minute. The momentum carried, and just before halftime, the Pioneers doubled their lead in spectacular fashion.
In the 44th minute, Valentina Quiroz hammered home a volley from outside the box following a corner kick. The highlight-reel strike that immediately became a nominee for Goal of the Year gave the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
2nd Half
Davis & Elkins pushed to get back into the game, generating four shots in the second half, but the Pioneers' defensive unit held firm. Goalkeeper Anjolie Colon came up with key saves to preserve the clean sheet, and Glenville's back line turned away multiple dangerous moments in the box. While the second half remained scoreless, the early surge and composed defending sealed the Pioneers' sixth win of the season.
