CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team put together a strong defensive effort Wednesday (Oct. 29) night but came up short on the road, falling 2-0 to the University of Charleston at the Welch Athletic Complex.
1st Half
The opening half was tightly contested, with both teams creating early chances but unable to find the breakthrough. Glenville's midfield battled well to disrupt Charleston's rhythm, while the Pioneers generated several promising looks off set pieces.
Charleston held a narrow 4-3 edge in shots, but neither side could break the deadlock as the teams went into halftime scoreless.
2nd Half
The Golden Eagles finally broke through in the 55th minute when Jamie Bland scored off an assist from Ciara Casamento to make it 1-0. Despite the setback, Glenville continued to push forward, forcing Charleston's backline to defend several corners and long balls into the box.
Charleston later doubled the lead in the 79th minute when Linsey Hackney converted a penalty kick to seal the match at 2-0. The Pioneers fought until the final whistle but couldn't find the net despite a competitive effort in a physical second half.
