GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team faced one of the Mountain East Conference's top-ranked squads Sunday afternoon, falling 8-1 to West Virginia State at Morris Stadium. Despite the result, the Pioneers showed effort and resilience throughout against one of the league's most explosive offenses.
1st Half
The opening half saw West Virginia State take early control of possession, pushing numbers forward and testing the Glenville defense. Goalkeeper Lucia Lopez made several big stops to keep the game close in the early going.
The Yellow Jackets finally broke through in the 33rd minute with a goal from Laura Pouedras, followed quickly by Hannah Aneley Nuñez Perreira to make it 2-0. Glenville created a pair of dangerous looks off corner kicks late in the half but couldn't find the back of the net, heading into halftime trailing by two.
2nd Half
The second half opened with a quick strike from Ellise Rennie in the 48th minute, extending the West Virginia State lead to 3-0. Just minutes later, Glenville State answered when Giselle Hamilton buried a finish from close range off a feed from Solares Solano, cutting the deficit to 3-1 and giving the Pioneers momentum.
However, the Yellow Jackets' relentless attack continued to press forward, with Rachel Okoro recording a hat trick and Aika Tobaru and Madison Rose Fortin adding late goals to seal the win.
