GSU Volleyball Loses to West Virginia State at Home

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team fell to West Virginia State in Mountain East Conference action on Tuesday (Oct. 7) evening inside the Waco Center. 3-0.

In the first set, both teams would trade points back and forth early, but through the middle stages Glenville State held a slim lead, however the Yellow Jackets would take control of the set at 19-15 to force a Glenville State timeout and would hold on to win set one, 26-24. Set two followed suit early on, as the game would be tied at seven, but a WVSU run would force a timeout from the home team at 11-8. The Pioneers could not mount a comeback, falling in set two, 25-16. Set three saw the blue and white leading early, but the Yellow Jackets would take back the lead as the game went back and forth before WVSU would stave off the Pioneers to take the third set, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.

West Virginia State
Alyssa Hill led the Yellow Jackets with 15 kills while Carmen Perez and Nicole Gartner Custodio both had nine and Kelsey McKeehan had 36 assists. On defense, Perez had 13 digs and Layana Lima da Conceicao had 12 wiith Gartner Custodio adding three blocks.

Glenville State
Kaiya Lian led the team in kills with six while Rita Kelly had five and Deniz Selen Yazar, Keleigh ChrismanMikayla Curry and Cali Queen all had four each. Elitsa Peneva led the team in assists with 12. Defensively, Selen Yazar had three blocks and Kelly had two while Queen led the team in digs with nine.

The Pioneers host the Golden Eagles of Charleston on Friday (Oct. 10) night and the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
