Men's Basketball Battles Back but Falls to MEC Preseason Favorite & No. 9 Ranked Fairmont State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Men's Basketball team made a spirited second-half push but couldn't overcome a slow start on Wednesday (Dec. 13) night, falling 88–75 to preseason MEC favorite and No. 9 nationally ranked Fairmont State inside the Waco Center. The Pioneers drop to (4–4) overall and (1–2) in the MEC, while Fairmont State improves to (7–1, 4–0 MEC) with its only loss coming at No. 4 Daemen. Despite trailing by 20 points at halftime, Glenville stormed back to cut the deficit to five, 71–66, before the Falcons closed the game on a decisive run.

First Half – Fairmont's Hot Shooting Builds a 20-Point Lead
Fairmont started the game red-hot, shooting 57% from the field and 50% from three in the opening half. The Falcons controlled the glass, forced turnovers, and used a 15–3 run to stretch the lead as the half progressed. The Pioneers trailed 26–13, then 35–20, before Fairmont closed the period on an 11–0 burst to take a 50–30 halftime lead. Elijah Redfern (14 first-half points) and Jalen Knott kept Glenville in range early, combining for 17 of GSU's first 20 points, but Fairmont's pace and second-chance scoring dictated the half.

Second Half – Pioneers Charge Back to Cut It to Five
Glenville came out of the locker room energized. Behind Redfern, Knott, and Prince Mosengo, GSU opened the half on a 12–5 surge. Redfern buried a pair of threes, Mosengo hammered home a dunk, and the Pioneers finally found their rhythm offensively. With under eight minutes remaining, the Waco Center came alive.

  • Redfern hit a tough pull-up.
  • Gadd cashed in a three.
  • Colon-Lewis knocked down a jumper.
  • Knott drilled back-to-back threes, then another minutes later.

Glenville completed the comeback push by clawing all the way back to a 71–66 deficit, closing the once-20-point margin to just five.

But the Falcons answered every blow. Miguel Martinez hit threes at 3:56 and 3:09, and Fairmont finished the game on a 17–9 run to escape Glenville with the win.
