SALEM, W.Va. – A 36-point second quarter and 48 forced turnovers led the Glenville State Lady Pioneer Women's Basketball team to take care of Salem on Wednesday (Dec. 17) evening, 105-58. The victory marks the first time GSU has reached the century mark this season as they improved to (7-2) overall.
1st Half
Carine Pinkney started out the scoring with a layup, and a three from Jayda Allie tied the game at seven. Wonder Nkoyock, Nylah Davis and Ashlyn Riley had baskets to end the first quarter with GSU leading 23-17. Keanti Thompson made a layup to begin the second quarter and Nwando Okigbo immediately turned a steal into another layup. Midway through, three pointer from Stevi Yancy put the lead at 27, and the lead at half would be 34, 59-25.
2nd Half
In the third, Khalia Bryant had four early points, and the lead would swell to as many as 44 with Allie putting an end the quarter with a shot from beyond the arc to make the score 83-44. In the fourth and final stanza, Glenville State just had to sit on their lead, but coach Emily Stoller was able to give some younger players some time on the court to finish the game. Mary Rivera. Maria Ortiz Quesada and Vanessa Nankwenya all scored in the fourth as the Lady Pioneers would take this one, 105-58.
Final Stats
Salem
Aleeya Silver had 13 points to lead the team with Akhia Miller notching 11 points. Makayla Green and Fatima Bakayoko both had ten points while Kamarice Jackson chipped in six.
Glenville State
Khalia Bryant had 15 points to lead the Lady Pioneer scoring attack. Wonder Nkoyock had 14 points, Salem transfer Carine Pinkney had 13 in her old gym and Stevi Yancy had 10 to round out the double-digit scorers. Three-point shooters Ashlyn Riley and Jayda Allie both had nine points as 14 Lady Pioneers saw action and all of them scored in the game.
