Preview: Men's Basketball Set for Critical Last Week of Regular Season

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Men's Basketball looks to finish up the regular season this week as they travel to the University of Charleston on Wednesday (Feb. 26) and Concord on Saturday (Mar. 1).

THE OPPONENTS
CHARLESTON

2024-25 Season
The Golden Eagles fourth in the Mountain East Conference with a record of (16-9, 12-6 MEC). In their first matchup this season with the Pioneers, the Golden Eagles took a twelve-point victory with a final score of 74-62.

Head Coach
James Long is in his first season as Head Coach for the University of Charleston's Men's Basketball team. Last season, Long was the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Davidson Day School, where he went 24-7 and won the State Championship in NCISAA 2A Division. Before coaching Davidsons Day School, Long spent three years at WVU Tech as the Head Men's Basketball Coach, where he went (62-21) with a 75%-win percentage.

Quick Look at The Golden Eagles
This season, the Golden Eagles are led in scoring by Ja'Corey Lipkins, who is averaging 14 points per game. Obinna Ugwuakazi leads the Golden Eagles on the boards with six rebounds per game. Dwaine Jones leads the MEC in assists per game with seven assists. Ugwuakazi and Jones both average a steal per game for the Golden Eagles and Zach Loveday leads the team in blocks per game with one.

CONCORD
2024-25 Season
The Mountain Lions are currently third in the Mountain East Conference with a record of (16-8, 13-5). In their first matchup of the season against the Pioneers, the Mountain Lions would take a seven-point victory, 92-85.

Head Coach
Todd May is in his ninth season as the Head Coach of the Concord Men's Basketball program. In his eight seasons as HC of the Mountain Lions, May has a record of 120-104. Coach May led Mountain Lions to back-to-back appearances in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Semifinals in 2018 and 2019 with another appearance there in 2024 as well as a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Mountain Lions are led by Kollin Tolbert, who is averaging 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal per game. Corey Boston is right behind him, averaging 16.5 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Amare Smith is the last double-digit scorer for the Mountain Lions at eleven points per game. Rene Diop and Kraig Gilbert are both leading the MEC in blocks.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2024-25 Season
The Pioneers, after splitting both games last week, now have a record of (15-11, 9-9 MEC). GSU has gotten hot at the right time as they have won six of their last eight games, propelling them to the #6 spot in the MEC standings.

Quick Look at The Pioneers
The Pioneers are led by Devin Collins' 15.8 points and five rebounds per game. Potential Freshman of the Year Ammar Maxwell continues to be great as he is averaging 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal a game. Senior guard Samier Kinsler is averaging eleven points and one steal per game while freshman Don Colon-Lewis is averaging ten points and five rebounds per game. Prince Mosengo leads the Pioneers on the boards with eight rebounds per game while also adding nine points a game.
