THE OPPONENTS
CONCORD
2025 Season
The first visitor to Glenville this week will be the Mountain Lions, who are currently (9-16) overall and (4-4) in MEC play, good for 4th in the south divison. Though they were only able to manage a (5-12) out of conference record, things have picked up in a big way in the month of March, almost doubling their win total, including a sweep over defending conference champion Charleston. This is much to the delight of 4th year steward Alyssa Morris, seeking to make her way back to the MEC Tournament after reaching for the first time under her watch in 2024.
Quick Look at The Mountain Lions
Junior Lacie Lewis has proven herself to be one of the elite hitters in the MEC in 2025, currently tied for first in the conference RBI lead with 28 RBI, tied for 3rd with five home runs, and 9th in batting average at .403. Senior Courtney Raines and sophomore Kendall Morgan round out the Mountain Lions with more than 10 RBIs with both hitting above .350 in the box as well. Raines also sits tied for 10th in MEC rankings with three home runs. The most efficient arm for Concord has been junior Madison Hollis, who holds a 3.74 ERA and a 2-2 record on the season. Sophomore Josi Ervin leads the squad in wins with four and sits at a current ERA of 4.73.
CHARLESTON
2025 Season
The back-to-back MEC champions have gotten off to an unfamiliar start in 2025, with a record of (12-8) overall and a (4-4) beginning to conference play to place them at 3rd in the south division. However, things have begun to roll in their direction after going (3-1) last weekend in doubleheaders against West Liberty and Wheeling. Rookie Head Coach Taylor Welch is hoping this is a good sign of things to come, continuing to try and fill the big shoes left by former skipper Michelle Frew. Viewers should certainly expect fireworks in this one with the season series currently sitting at (1-1) after their first round of games earlier this season.
Quick Look at The Golden Eagles
The Lady Pioneers will have another premier hitter to face off against in junior Kayla Moran, who is 3rd in batting average at .492 and tied for 8th in RBIs with 23, along with four deep balls on the year. Seniors Kyra Gooler and Lindsey Phares make up the rest of the Golden Eagles with an above .300 average, with the combo combining for 25 RBIs and four home runs themselves. GSU will have a challenge to face on the bump as well with junior Addison Mass, who holds a stifling 2.42 ERA along with a record of 9-2. There is not much ground lost with fellow pitcher and Seton Hill transfer Chloe Elliot, who holds a 3.36 ERA.
WEST VIRGINIA STATE
2025 Season
After rolling out to a (8-6) start in out of conference games, the Yellow Jackets have had a down stretch to start MEC activity, currently sitting at (2-6) and in last place in the south division. This weekend will present itself as a chance to get back on track in Institute, as well as give them an opportunity for revenge on the Lady Pioneers after losing both of their games at home a little over a week ago. Mattie Best is certainly looking to right the ship this week in her 6th season, attempting to make it back to prominence once again after reaching the NCAA tournament in her first two.
Quick Look at The Yellow Jackets
Redshirt freshman Kylie Price presents another challenge for the Lady Pioneers to contend with, currently holding a .419 average to rank her in the top 10 for the conference. Junior Emma Pauley has pushed the offense along with a team-leading 16 RBIs and a .358 average while sophomore Sydney Shamblin also has double digit RBIs with 13 and is hitting .333 on the year. Junior Kaleigh Murphy has been the most prominent arm with a 3.31 ERA and 5-4 record.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2025 Season
It has been a year of success so far for 5th year head coach Sara Scoone, who has the Lady Pioneers tied for 1st in the MEC south division at (5-3) in conference play and (15-10) overall. This week will be a welcome return to home territory, with their last home action being played exactly a month ago at the time of this writing. This week's stretch also provides an opportunity to pace themselves in front of the rest of the south division after going (2-2) last weekend against West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins.
