GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Softball will be in action this week, looking to continue their hot streak in conference play after a very successful string of work with three series over five days. In a five-day stretch that saw GSU lineup for four conference doubleheaders, the Lady Pioneers took victories in seven of the eight games, with the lone loss coming against north division leader Fairmont State. The results of the busy week find the girls in sole possession of first place in the MEC South Division and in the MEC overall, with each game becoming increasingly more important as the postseason readily approaches. This weekend sees the Lady Pioneers travel to Harrison County for a non-conference round against Salem on Friday (Apr. 18) while Saturday (Apr. 19) will be a long road trip to Pittsburgh for a round against north division third place holder Point Park.

THE OPPONENTS
SALEM
2025 Season
The Tigers have enjoyed a fairly successful go at it in 2025, currently sitting at (21-20) overall on the year. In these 21 wins, they have notable victories against University of Charleston and Fairmont State, with plenty of capability on offense having six games with double digit runs scored. Results such as these are no shock under long-term head man Steve Potts, who has steered the ship for almost 20 years and competed in the Small College World Series multiple times.
Quick Look at The Tigers
Freshman Bella Ortiz has been the most efficient hitter for the squad, with a .351 average and 12 RBIs as well as 10 extra base hits. Five Tigers have more than 15 RBIs on the year, led by Brooke Wise with 24, also the team leader in home runs with four. Junior Kylie Zinn is second in RBIs, having 20 on the season. Ortiz will also be a factor on the bases, having 13 stolen bases to date. On the mound, Sophomore Kendall Lemley has been lights out, with a 2.31 ERA and 64 strikeouts, as well as leading with 13 wins. Junior Franchesca Alvaro has been a model of consistency herself, with a 2.77 ERA, 65 strikeouts and six wins.
POINT PARK
2025 Season
A matchup against the newest member of the conference awaits GSU on Saturday afternoon, who have been a problematic opponent in their rookie season in the Mountain East. Currently sitting at 3rd place in the north division at (7-13) in league play, they will certainly look at this weekend as a chance to knock off a high-ranking opponent and gain steam with the postseason coming up. 18th year head coach Michelle Coultas is certainly the leader to attack the school's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II, and has led her team to seven 20-win seasons in her tenure.
Quick Look at The Pioneers
Sophomore Mia Arndt has been one of the most consistent hitters in the MEC this year, being one of only seven players with a .400 batting average. Junior Gianna Welsh is the leader in RBIs with 19, also leading the Pioneers in home runs with three. Junior Jaylyn Mullenax presents the biggest challenge on the mound, being 7th in the conference in ERA at 2.82 and top 10 in wins with eight.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2025 Season
The fifth go-around of head coach Sara Scoone has been a historic one, recently becoming the all-time wins leader in program history with 105. The season has been a culmination of consistent improvement under her direction, with the Lady Pioneers outright leading the Mountain East Conference and one triumph away from tying the single season record for victories. With such success, it should be no surprise that several Lady Pioneers are high on the MEC leaderboards and are continuing to light it up as the regular season reaches its close.
Quick Look at The Pioneers
The offensive attack for the Lady Pioneers has been prolific in every sense of the word. Four squad members are top 20 in the league in batting average, led by the veteran Makenna Negley at .405 and sophomore Zailees Seda at .392, both numbers good for top 10 in the MEC. Five have 25 or more runs batted in, with Delaney Warnick, Kylee Goodman and Monica Rodelo all within the top 10 in the conference rankings. Warnick's sophomore campaign has been a historic one, having already graced 40 RBI to place her three away from tying the program single season record and her eight bombs place her 4th in the MEC. Goodman's junior campaign and Rodelo's senior swing have both been a driver of the success on the scoreboard, both top 10 in the conference for home runs and RBIs, with Goodman also top 10 in OPS.
The defensive side has been just as problematic for opponents, led by a pitching relentless attack and a wall of a defense behind them, with the 2nd lowest amount of errors in the MEC. Negley finds herself on another top 10 list with a fielding percentage of .986, a number shared by Warnick. Negley is also 3rd in putouts on the year. The performance on the mound speaks for itself, with the trifecta of Meghan Stump, Kylie Burdick and AndiJo Howard all top 10 in ERA and all three currently holding a value that would place them top 10 for a single season in program history. The junior year effort of Burdick has been one that places her among the elite in the MEC, with an impressive 1.94 ERA and a team-leading 15 wins, also receiving MEC Pitcher of the Week honors after going (5-0) last week. Stump's second spin in the Ville has been more than quality, with a 2.61 ERA and the 2nd lowest number of runs allowed in the conference, as well as 3rd lowest in hits allowed. The play of Howard has been outstanding in her first year, standing at 3rd in lowest runs allowed, the 5th lowest opponent batting average and 2nd lowest hits allowed.
