GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Pioneer Baseball cruised to their second doubleheader sweep of Davis & Elkins in as many days, giving them another pair of much needed division wins as they continue to tussle for the coveted 3rd and final tournament slot in the MEC South Division. The results of today will help efforts tremendously, with the squad handily defeating Davis & Elkins twice by margins of 10-1 in the first game and 12-2 in Game two. Game One – GSU 10 I Davis & Elkins 1
The Pioneers started off the day with their third double-digit performance in the last four games to secure the victory. Things did not go their way early, however, with the Senators holding a 1-0 lead after three and a half innings of play. Lance Minson would be the one to break the dry streak with a solo shot to knot things up, a play that would awaken the bats for the home squad. Austin Carter continued his stellar weekend with a double in the bottom of the 4th that brought three runs home, pacing the lead to three. The 5th inning saw a similar result, beginning with a Luke Sweigart single that scored Carlos De Jesus. Colby Guy then hammered his 2nd bomb of the weekend over the right field fence to plate three more, pushing the Pioneer lead to seven. The scoring would be polished off in the 6th with two more insurance runs via a sac fly by Sweigart and a grounder from Zach Laurie that scored De Jesus. With a performance from the Pioneer pitching staff that only allowed eight total baserunners, GSU secured the 10-1 victory.
