ATHENS, W.Va. – Glenville State Pioneer Baseball headed down south for their final series of the 2025 regular season, taking on Concord for the second day in a row after a wild afternoon of action yesterday. GSU was unable to finesse victories in either game today, which will spell an end to the Pioneers season after tiebreakers will send West Virginia State and Concord as the final two seeds in the MEC South Division. Though the Pioneers put out a valiant effort in the last part of the season, winning 12 of their last 14 games, the magic only carried them so far, and today's action will wrap up the 2025 campaign.
Game One – GSU 6 I Concord 13
The Mountain Lions utilized a blazing start to carry them to victory in the first duel of the day, sending home five in the bottom of the 1st. An additional pair in the 2nd extended the deficit to seven, presenting a difficult mountain to climb on the Pioneer side of things. The GSU offense activated in the 3rd, Lance Minson bringing home Colby Guy on a sac fly and Carlos De Jesus scoring Jacob Meadows on an infield single. The squads traded runs throughout the rest of the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings, with the Pioneers trimming the deficit to as low as three after De Jesus and Zac Bayor homered in the 5th. Concord was on fire today, however, insulating their lead with four in the bottom of the 6th. Their defense would then stonewall in the final frame, securing the game one victory.
