BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team has been slated 4
th in the Southern Division of the Mountain East Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, the league announced today.
The University of Charleston was once again picked to win the South Division with 56 total points and six first-place votes while West Virginia State (49 points, two first-place votes) and Concord (48 points, three first-place votes) were right behind the Golden Eagles. The Pioneers totaled 30 points with West Virginia Wesleyan (26 points) and Davis & Elkins (16 points) rounding out the poll.
In the North Division, Frostburg State was also picked to win the division again, holding nine first-place votes and 49 total points. Fairmont State picked up the remaining two first-place votes with 42 total points while West Liberty (28 points), Point Park (23 points) and Wheeling (18 points) finished the poll.
The Pioneers are coming off their best season in school history, finishing (7-9-2) overall and (4-9-2) in MEC play, their most overall and conference wins since starting the program in 2017. GSU returns both of their top goal scorers from a year ago in
Valentina Quiroz and 2024 All-MEC Honorable Mention selection
Marcelle Stoller as well as the team's assists leader, 2023 All-MEC Freshman selection
Aitana Viejo.
Glenville State opens the 2025 regular season on Sunday, September 7 at Mars Hill.
